Swing thoughts
My craziest swing thought is that I do not have one 👀
One word off the tee, a putting routine I have not touched in years, and a 64 out of nowhere.
Hey y’all,
You asked me for my craziest swing thought. Fair warning, my answer is going to disappoint a few of you.
That, plus what actually goes through my head over a driver, the putting routine I have not touched in years, how much harder I prepare for a YGT event than a normal video, and a 64 that came out of nowhere.
All below.
George
01The crazy one

There is no crazy one
You wanted feel like you are trying to shank it. I have got slow tempo.
My swing thoughts are boring and they always have been. Slow tempo. Smooth backswing. Hit a draw. That is the entire library.

I cannot think positionally. Hold the right tilt, get the hands higher at the top, flip more through it, none of that does anything for me. I did go through a whole season of hold the right tilt once. We do not talk about that season.

If it takes more than three words I am not thinking it.
02Driver

Pick it. Waggle. Fade.
The current driver thought, in full, with nothing left out.
Fade.

That is it. Pick my target out, little waggle, fade, swing.

There is no part two.
03Putting

The routine has not changed in years
The one part of my game with an actual process.
Start behind the ball. Get the blade lined up. Lock in.

Put the putter down, look at the target, at the spot I want to start it on.

One practice stroke. Look over. Hit. Boom.

One new bit. I have just gone back to the Double Wide. First proper look at it again and I shot 64. More on that below.
04Preparation

I treat a YGT event like a tour event
Am I more obsessive before YGT than before a normal video? Yes.
I want to treat these like a tournament, because to me that is what they are. So I practise. I try to get my game as sharp as I can get it.

Sometimes I am ready. Sometimes I am not. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. That is tournament golf.

And I am not putting that effort in so there is a cool video at the end of it. I want to actually perform. Honestly I probably take a YouTube video more seriously than some guys take a real tournament. For better or for worse.
Pelli on footwork. The toe up drill.
Pelli’s tip of the week
Own your footwork 👀
This week it is Justin, and a back foot that will not let go.
Justin does what a lot of young players do. He hangs on that back foot far too long, and by the time he finally shifts left the right foot kicks up and the whole thing goes handsy through the ball.

The fix is the toe up drill. Pelli got it from Mike Bender and used it with Jonathan Byrd through his best run on the PGA Tour.

At address, get your right toe up in the air. As you start down, bank that foot in and let it roll around. You can hit balls doing it. It gets your weight left and it stops the trail knee kicking out through impact.

One warning. The audio doubles up at the start and it sounds like two Pellis talking over each other. Twice the coaching, same price. Stick with it, it sorts itself out.

One more thing
The 64
Lowest round of my year, and it was boring for about thirteen holes.
One under through nine. Good drives, not great drives. Good iron shots, not great iron shots. Good putts, not great putts. Two putt birdie on 11 and I am two under, still nothing really happening.

Then 14 through 17. Three birdies and an eagle. Five under in four holes. Nearly holed one for albatross on 15. Wedge to twelve feet on the next par five. Drove the short par four to fifteen feet. Hit it to two feet on 17. Good drive on 18 and up and down to finish it off.

The whole round was patience. At one under through nine you can very easily start pressing and telling yourself it is one of those scrappy days. I stayed in it long enough for the good ones to show up, and then they all showed up at once.
One of the best rounds I have ever had there. And of course it was off camera.
🏖Also this weekend

Chili’s have gone and built a golf club
Two days only, and everybody is invited.
Chili’s Golf Club. 28 and 29 August, DeBell Golf Course, Burbank.
Rhoback have made a Chili’s Golf Club collection, and rather than just put it on a website, Chili’s have opened an actual golf club to go with it. The 28th and 29th of August only, at DeBell Golf Course in Burbank.

Play golf in the kit, then go and eat a Triple Dipper afterwards. That is the entire pitch and I think it is a brilliant one.

That is the lot.
No crazy swing thoughts, one word off the tee, a putting routine I have not touched in years, and a 64 for staying patient.

P.S. 👀 Your turn, and I want the weird ones. What is the craziest swing thought you have actually used? Hit reply. The best ones go in a future Brief.
